I've had Verizon FiOS for about 11 months now. Those tools in support couldnt tech their way out of a wet paper bag and their billing dept are far worse.

I have the actiontec router / modem but the GUI is pretty much the same on both devices. Here's how you forward the port:

first, login as admin on the modem.
Click Firewall Settings
Click yes pass the nag
Click Port Forwarding
Either locate your pc's IP (Static assign the PCs on the network - will make it easier in the future)
click the Pencil to edit your firewall rules (that or just click the ADD at the bottom of the page)
depending on if you had to click add or the pencil to edit rules dictates this next step:
If you had to click the add, now fill in your pc's ip in the Networked Computer / Device field
Still following the Add scenario, now pull down the drop down (Specify Protocol) and choose IRC This should give you all the ports you need for IRC including IDENT. Now click APPLY then APPLY then APPLY. this should activate that port.

Here's the other scenario (not the ADD one) Locating your pc ip via the list of forwarded ports:
Click the Pencil to edit your rules
Where it says "Specify Protocol" Pull that down, click IRC
Click Apply
Click APPLY
You are done.

TCP Any -> 113
Any -> 194
Any -> 1024-1034
Any -> 6661-7000

should be forwarded.

so at about 11:00pm tonight 1/25/09 - my connection went totally down. Router is up everything seems fine with it but the ONT isnt sending any data through.

I grab my cell phone search for about 45 mins for a f'n god damn phone number to call finally stumbled onto one i call and have to waste another 15 mins to get passed the stupid robo tech to get a live person. anyway, Portland, OR has an issue on the FiOS network right now where its no route to host. meaning sync no surf. Took me an hour for those assclowns just to tell me that. wtf.

GOD I HATE VERIZON oh i'm on call too so i better not get any calls from now until morning. i'll be pissed. I have my laptop right now but the connection is slow. I'm gonna go get the new CLeARWire come the 10th. we'll see how that goes.

I know the Newton is old as hell but its also a very cool device.

I went and picked up a new video card at Fry's for 330. GeForce GTX 260CORE216SC P/N 896-P3-1267FR 896MB DDR3 eVGA. I also elected to upgrade my power supply while i was at it. its not much of a jump but i'm better off now than i was. went from a 600W Coolermaster SLi to a 750W Coolermaster SLi - figured since the specs on the new card carries a 500W minimum and pulls about 300W by itself, it would be a better idea to upgrade the power plant.

I just got a call from the power company - they said they want to dedicate tonight's deployment of their new and improved hydro generator to me and they want to put solar panels on the roof and install a wind turbine to keep up with power consumption.

I ran a benchmark and compared it to a benchmark i did back on october 25 (last month) differences are amazing. before i could run farcry2 at about medium at about 20fps on average. now, i cranked everything up to "very high" with 8x Anti Aliasing now i'm averaging 36fps. this card is even bigger than my other. fucking thing requires 2, 6 pin SLi power inputs too. my machine seems a bit happier now.

well, today i got a wild hair up my ass and picked up a god damn 80gb classic ipod video. it basically only cost me 50 bucks. not a bad deal. back is sort of scrached but the lcd is good. so far, its ok. i gotta get a better charging / sync cable for it though. one it came with is a piece of shit.

god damn it i'm an iWhore now. one thing is for certain, its cool to have in the car. i just jack in and the damn thing sounds good. i'm currently syncing the pod with my mp3 database (all 31.7gb's) and I loaded some videos on it too. I MAY pick up an ipod control module for my car deck. its like 60 bucks and i know i'll more than likely pick up the warranty plan from 'Crapple' for like 60 bucks which carries a full worry free protection plan everything from the accessories to the battery.

OMG this thing is sweet. I lucked out hardcore cause there are ZERO dead pixels too. ordered on the 9th of OCT delivered on the 18th of OCT. what sucks is i had to go to work and wait for the fedex guy to get there they gave me a window of "Anywhere from 1pm - 5pm since it is a saturday it was like watching paint dry. it actually sucked.

Ended up buying this on the 9th from woot.com. status of the order shows confirmed but not shipped yet. thats sort of annoying. might be as well though since i'm on vacation time and the monitor is being shipped to work since i cant trust our neighbors not to rip it off if i'm not here. also picked up an HD PCI TV Tuner. I first picked up a no name piece of shit HD tuner for 30 bucks at frys but ended up returning it and upgrading to the one i have in the box now. it picks up HD, Clear QAM, analog. no brainer to install it and get it to work in Vista Ultimate. so far very pleased with it. i may drop in my other tuner card since i have 1 remaining pci slot just so i'll have dual tuners. next month i may buy another one of these HD tuners since this one is working so well and yes have 2 tuners (i'll remove the tuner previous)

well i Decommissioned my quad proc old ass file server on wednesday. ended up buying a MSI barebone system for 99 bucks at frys. has some stupid board with Intel 945G chipset and graphics built on. has a gig nic and 3 pci slots with 6 sata ports and a PCI-e x16 slot for better video later. It's a server box so i could care less about the video. anyway, I picked up 2 gigs of ram, an Intel core 2 duo e7300 Socket LGA 775 proc, and a WD320 gig SATA drive all for 357. wasnt a bad deal. The proc was the most expensive out of everything.

so i installed vista last night on the tablet. I was surprised with how well the tablet ran the OS. All hardware on the unit were directly supported by vista. Only thing i really had to do was update the video drivers. this thing has a nVidia go FX 5200 256mb NON SHARED. Vista's tablet pc support is very limited. fact it really sucks. nothing from toshiba's site to update the native programs for the tablet functions. I restored the ghost image back to xp tablet pc edition.

I also was playing around with my phone a bit. I updated the boot image to a custom rom i found on XDA Dev's forum. The T-Mobile stock WM 6.1 update has Internet connection sharing built in via bluetooth however, when you made the connection, you could ping out via dns but it would act as a loopback and you couldnt get beyond the gateway. this custom rom addressed that and i'm currently updating this while being tethered to the phone. Speeds are hella ass but oh well. T-mobile is not known for their Edge network speeds.

well shit. Since the tablet lacks an optical drive i decided to create a network boot server (using TFTP with PXE protocol) and tested it. the damn thing works. I'm gonna drop vista on the machine to see what it does and to check out the tablet functions. I have a boot image that loads WinPE over the network. I also have a fresh ghost image so when i deem vista a pig on that machine, i'll restore the image.

These machines dont have the ability to boot via usb flash which kinda sucks. in fact, according to the forums, only a select few usb optical drives will boot the thing. I'll go through toshiba and get one that is approved. probly cost like 100 bucks or some crazy shit like that. oh well though. I may spring and get the docking station that has an optical drive built in. its more like a glorified port replicator.

Got it today. Same time as the RAM came too. It is in good shape. no software with it (I knew this) but it was loaded with a stock restore disk from toshiba. When i get home I'll dump the stock configuration to a ghost image and archive it. I'm gonna invest in a spare battery though. this battery gets hot. seems to hold a charge and it responds quite well. It'll get some accessories come payday. The screen is in PERFECT shape.

I still havent heard from the place i got it from though. I'm gonna tag them with a bad feedback mark.

that tracking number i have is for the extra ram i got for it. I'm not so much worried about that as i am with the shipping of the tablet. I've attempted to contact them once on Sunday night. no response. I just fired off another email to their hotmail address listed on the paypal account, and the confirmation email. No tracking numbers.

The ram is still scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday. talking about slow boat to siberia. they both should be delivered at work. I dont trust anything to be delivered here at the house.

So i finally bit the bullet and bought a Tablet PC. Not a bad deal at all. i could have got one in town at STUFF on 82nd for 499 but this one i got has a faster processor, more ram, larger hard drive, larger screen and better resolution with a better vid card. I think the one that i bought will do nicely. The one thing the toshiba doesnt have is a CDROM. I'll pick up a USB Slimline DVD RW for about 70 bucks sooner or later. For now, i'll just map it through the network if i need cdrom access.

ok. at this point i'm really really pissed at verizon's lack of skills and customer service.

this shits fucked. so back i think on monday, i get on the phone with customer service (keep in mind they are only open from 8am - 5pm m-f) I get cut off 6 times during transfers to an agent. i finally got someone. bitch is like "i see you want to cancel. hold on while i transfer you to an agent that can help" (Retention) i get the person, they say 3 words and hang up. i call in, get disconnected, call back get someone from retention. she says i had DSL on the line thats why my bill was so spendy. i'm like I have FIOS i dont need DSL. i never requested that in the first place on top of all that, they put the wireline on copper and not the fiber optics. it would have been easier for them to just provision the ONT to take on the pots service. k so she says she fixed that. i ask for a credit. she transfers me to another department. i get cut off again. at this point i'm pretty pissed. i call back, have to start over now. tell them all i want to do is kill the wireline service. thats it. so they put me on hold, come back and tell me i'm suspended for no pay? wtf? i pay my bill online and on time. i have screenshots to prove it. then they tell me the POTS line is being ported out for some reason. i never asked for that either. so 53 mins later, they say "we need to get with our technical and billing staff we'll call you back shortly when it is all fixed"

i'm so close to just saying "Kill FIOS and i'll go back to comcast where they at least treat people with a little more respect" I'd have to pay 175 to get out of my contract, and buy a new router.

so here it is today, 7/10/08. oh and they never did call me back. I just called them about 20 mins ago, got someone in retention again. she said what happened is they majorly screwed up i mean in a big way. (according to her anyway) they got me mixed up with some other guy in the area that ordered fios and wireline at the same time. so they had my account mixed with his. he ended up cancelling and he didnt pay for his fios so they killed his access. I guess he ported out too. she said she'd call me back in 30 mins but that was 45 mins ago now.

I am going to at this point give them an Ultimatum if they dont fix this shit turn the land line off, and credit me back shit they owe me, i will cancel services and i'll call comcast up right now and get it turned back on.

well after messing around with nics mainly, i finally removed the wifi card and stuck a wired nic in its place. baffles me why the onboards dont work right, but at this point cause its hot and muggy as all fuck i could care less.

Vista and some nics dont like to get along very well.

I first dropped a 3com 3C905TX in the box before checking to see if there are any drivers available. According to the forums, a driver for the 3c905tx just doesnt exist.

I pulled that piece of shit out and stuck an SMC 1211 TX in. same thing. well the xp drivers work in vista but i got a bluescreen on that shit. I pulled that out too.

Stuck in a Linksys LNE100TX v5.1 and Vista picked that bitch up and started using it. that makes me a tad happier.

I added 2 18GB 15k RPM drives to the server box and set fstab up to automount them, and added a SATA controller with my 36gb raptor 10k RPM. Now i gotta find a driver for the sata controller for linux.

I also finally got around to plugging in the front usb ports on the box. I just havent tested them yet. sort of scared to.

Ubuntu sent me a cd in the mail. i ordered that mess like 3 weeks ago now. it was free so i was expecting long wait times.

well thankfully, i've only had maybe 4 calls all weekend. sucks on the paycheck though but its much nicer on my nerves. i hate people that refuse to learn or refuse to think for themselves. f'n bitches.

went and saw the incredible hulk tonight. it was really good. was sort of impressed.

so i installed the ampache server over the weekend got mysql and a bunch of other stuff working. I found out that verizon is blocking port 80 so cant fucking run a webserver. everything is working fine inside my network here at the house. we'll have to put apache2 on a different port if that's even possible. god damn it.

anyway, anything that plays on the ampache server will automatically update my last.fm account. i guess that's cool.

Steps taken to fix the problem:
reset tcp/ip stack
deleted arp tables
flushed route tables
reset winsock
reloaded drivers from known good archive
reloaded the OS TWICE
updated drivers with MS updates

I also had a problem where after i uninstalled the old version of nvidia drivers reboot then came up fine then loaded the newest version came up to a black screen with mouse cursor in the middle. reboot to safe mode and tried to load different profiles. same thing.

ended up reloading with same version of OS and same mobo drivers. nic drivers failed after 4 mins. average transfer rate from pc to switch (or pc to router or pc to pc) is about 639k/s. swapped out nic cables with no change. changed out the switch. no change. narrowed the problem down to the twin nics onboard. wtf. So i grabbed one of my pcmcia to pci adapters and installed a belkin pre-n 8010 pcmcia wifi adapter, speeds are back to normal, issues are gone. i hate going wifi though. The first load failed cause i couldnt install sp1 without getting errors. MS said "reboot if that dont solve it then reload" so i reloaded hoping it'd fix the nic issues. it didnt. same god damn problem. SP1 installed without a hitch though. proceeded to restore the rest of the shit. The wifi adapter is working fine.

What is really funny though is everyone else's pcs that i work on are running fine. maybe i have mechanic's syndrone. wtf.

well i'm feeling better. i think i was just tired. it was weird. i couldnt remember basic things even basic passwords i've known for years and years. it took me a half an hour to type out my last post cause i had to proof read it about a dozen times even then i couldnt even concentrate on it enough to completely proof it. it sucked.

so i see rambo iv today. its not even good enough to warrant capital letters. even though stalone directed it, um.. it still sucked and it sort of reminded me like the rocky films. i really dont like that style of directing. glad i didnt pay for it, nor buy it.

so i replace my dvd reader with cd burner combo drive. First off, you have to completely pull the machine apart from top to bottom in order to even get to the cdrom or the hard drive for that matter. yeah it sucked. finally put it all back together and powered up with a standard cd burner in the mac. damn thing works fine. no smoke either.

Something is wrong with me. cant focus on anything, i'm thinking my sight is all fucked up. i could just be really tired. i dont know. if i dont get any better by tomorrow, i will go to the doctor or hospital. this is fucked. its hard to really focus on things. so i'm gonna go to bed.

I think i found the best GPS software EVAR! It is way better than Garmin, TomTom, MS Streets, and even Google Maps. (I cant run Google Maps due to memory usage requirements - Gmaps wont install on the Storage Card it will only install onto the phone's internal storage which it aint much. Gmaps uses about 3-6mb and when you only got 20mb to use, there be some limitations. I used some tools that moves installed applications to another specified location but Gmaps just reverted back. bitches.

Here's the new software i just picked up it is called "i-Go" there are maps on demonoid for the USA. This app is mainly european in origin.
